In the current economic climate its not surprising that we are all looking so buy our home improvement products as cheaply as possible. When it comes to buying a patio cover though you will find that getting something that is affordable is not always possible, with prefab wood designs being more expensive than most people would imagine. In this day and age aluminum kits have become much more popular than the wood versions thanks to the fact that they are cheaper and easier to maintain, but many of us crave that natural look and feel that only wood can provide.

If that is your preference then you might actually find it easier to hire a handyman and get them to build you a custom patio cover that will be an exact match for your property, and will meet your own particular needs. This option though, its definitely not going to be cheap.

If you want to get the premade version there are however a few options available if you have access to one of the larger garden ceters, or you are willing to shop for what you need online. Spanish style wood patio covers and pergolas are worth a look if the design suits what you are looking for. These are rustic and perhaps more simple than you are looking for, but they do the job intended and look great if they match the exterior of your property

Craftsman style arbors are particularly easy to source and are certainly affordable compared to those models with a solid roof. You have to keep in mind however that they are not going to offer protection from the rain. They do however offer shade from the sun on those hot summer days. If you desire a more contemporary prefab wood patio cover then you should check out the designs with lattice panels which give great shade and can have vines or other plants growing on them to improve their look and provide more protection from the elements.

Although you might not find a prefab kit that exactly fits your bill, if you don’t want to spend a lot of cash on a custom build you might have to make some allowances, unless you are willing to settle for outdoor patio covers which are constructed using aluminum instead.
